Half Dome is often called the ultimate Yosemite day hike, but 20 miles in one day is a bit much for most of us mere mortals. Then there is the group of mountain runners who actually run Half Dome. Believe it or not the Half Dome Record is around 2 hours and 30 minutes; that's round trip, up and back. Our trip was down right leisurely. Six miles a day: Glacier Point to Little Yosemite Valley the first day, Half Dome using the infamous "Cables" on the second day and then down to Yosemite Valley on the third day. You'll have plenty of time to really enjoy it and if you don't have any "Bear Stories", I guarantee, after staying a night in Little Yosemite Valley, you will.
They have recently installed a lottery permit system for going up the cables so check with the Park Service for the
currant regulations and permits required.
